Batman Begins!
2005-06-30 @ 9:51 a.m.

After weeks of looking for kakis to go catch Batman Begins, I finally saw it last night and I must say that the movie exceeded my expectations.

Stuff I didn’t like was how Ras Al Ghul died so quickly in the film. He’s not supposed to die, he’s supposed to be immortal, with his magical lake that prolongs his life! What happened to Talia, Ras’s daughter, who later got pregnant with Bats’s kid? And those fighting scenes, they were too choppy. I can’t see a damn thing what was going on, if Bats was kicking ass or was his ass being kicked. And what’s with the car/ tank? Yea, it’s supposed to be pre-Batman thing, but the tank was abit too much. I guess the design was meant to tie in with Tim Burton’s version of the Batmobile. In the end, changes had to be made in order to create a more ‘hollywood’ appeal.

What I like about the movie was that it’s no Elektra, nor does it resemble the last 2 campy Batman flicks. This one was gritty, no silly sidekicks, no cheesy one-liners, it’s all about Bats kicking ass. Nolan seemed to have gotten the Batman persona right. I like how he didn’t even finch when he got hit by a taser, it gives people the idea that he might be just be some monster. And the part when he caught the bad cop and plays around with him like some yoyo. That really showed the scary side of Batman, and after decades of reading comics, it’s really how Batman operates; using people’s fear. Last but not least, the mentioning of Batman being his true self and the disguise was actually the millionaire playboy image.

What could have been better? The fighting scenes could have been less choppy. Yea we all know Batman can kick ass, but let’s see Bats kick ass and solve crimes! He’s supposed to be a world class detective, and so far none of the Batman movies have been able to portray that side of him effectively. Basically more grit, more goth, more drama, less or no campiness. And IF we have a Robin, please make him more mature and smarter. Or we can have a spoiled, attitude problem Robin, and have him blown up by the Joker!
